About Sophie

I grew up in Los Angeles and started playing piano at the age of 4 and a half. My parents were “piano sitting” and I couldn’t get enough of discovering the magnificent sounds which came out of this amazing instrument. I began lessons with Dr. Paul Pitman, with whom I stayed as a student for 13 years. During this time, I participated in the National Guild, a program whose purpose is to provide incentives for piano students and to promote education in music through examinations, auditions, and competitions.

In 1992, I accepted a scholarship for Piano Performance at The Boston Conservatory where I studied with Mrs. Jung-Ja Kim. After my freshman year, I decided to change my major to Music Education and continued to minor in piano performance while studying with Mrs. Harriet Lundberg.

Since 1996, I have lived in the Boston area and have been teaching general music and chorus to students aged 3-14 at the International School of Boston. During this time, I have also managed my piano studio, teaching students of all ages. A devoted teacher and lifelong learner, I continue to inspire my students and indulge them in the wonders of music through the art of learning to play piano.

I currently live in Watertown, Massachusetts with my husband and two sons.
