Online Lessons
One-on-one piano lessons are offered using the video conferencing applications Google Meet or Zoom. This is a great option for children aged 7 and above and adults who cannot, for whatever reason, take in-person lessons. As always, lessons are individually tailored to the student’s individual goals.
Lessons in this format are much like in-person lessons. We start out with a warm-up, play through our review pieces, then the student plays a piece usually of their choosing, and I provide verbal feedback on all of their work. We spend a few minutes discussing what went well and troubleshooting any problem areas. The lesson usually ends with a fun theory exercise incorporating skills such as note recognition and rhythm games.
The student should keep a pencil handy for circling or making notes in the music. As needed, I can also provide my demonstrations of playing parts of the piece on my piano or also to point out things in the music.
Students can find an updated Google Sheets after each lesson with the weekly assignment.
Although the online format may not necessarily be the most ideal choice for very young students, it is definitely suitable for students 8 and older. It all depends on the willingness of both particles to make it work! Students can easily adjust to learning in this format and tend to become very independent learners.
